Reporting To                          Dr Robert Ewers (Imperial College London); Dr. Glen Reynolds (SEARRP); SAFE Project Scientific Coordinator

Length of Appointment        Indefinite

Summary of Post                  

The Stability of Altered Forest Ecosystems (SAFE) Project is one of the world’s largest ecological experiments, examining the impacts of logging and forest fragmentation on the biodiversity, biogeochemistry and hydrology of tropical forests. 

The specific goal of this position is to collect and curate long-term field data designed to monitor plant communities and their carbon dynamics.  You will be based at the SAFE Project field site in Sabah, Malaysia, where you will work with and manage a small team of Research Assistants.  You will be responsible for monitoring a network of small tree plots and intensive carbon plots, conducting regular censuses of tree and seedling communities, deadwood stocks and carbon cycling processes. You will conduct decomposition experiments and collect relevant environmental data such as soil temperature, soil moisture and atmospheric carbon fluxes.
